All of our software, be it performance or economy focused, custom tuned for your car and always dyno developed in the first instance, which ensures we accurately monitor. |
It is important to ensure optimum AFR is achieved in order to ensure stoichiometric mixture. This in basic terms means that, the engine isn’t running a lean or rich fuel mixture. This is also important in ensuring that your engine is Epa compliant.
It is always important to monitor engine knock when developing a good and most importantly a safe tune. Knocking or detonation occurs when unburnt fuel in the combustion chamber explodes rather than burning in a controlled manner. When engine knock is occuring, the pressure within the combustion chamber rises dramatically to levels that can destroy your engines internal components within seconds.
It is important that correct boost pressure control is achieved to ensure that no spikes or dips occur to ensure maintained life of the turbo charger. A spike in the boost delivery can cause over-boosting which pressurises the compressor to a level beyond it’s tolerance.
When increasing the fueling and boost pressures of an engine, it naturally increases the EGT. It is important to log the EGT of an engine as there is a crucial limit which shouldn’t be surpassed to ensure maintained longevity. This is a good tool in monitoring the efficiency of uprated intercoolers etc.
This is crucial to know the fuelling limitation of the injector. On some modern cars we are seeing injectors with 100% IDC from standard, meaning there is no room for further modification without upgrading the injectors (this is rare however). If it was a turbo application, and the boost pressure was raised, due to there being no additional fuel available, it would cause the engine to run lean and potentially melt your pistons.
In conclusion, whether you decide upon having your vehicle set up at our workshop, or choose the convenience of our mobile ECU remapping service, you can rest assured that all our remaps are developed and tested to provide good, safe and reliable tuning. Never will we operate outside of the engines capabilities on standard components, as your vehicle’s reliability is as important to us as it is to you.

D.P.F. (Diesel Particulate Filter) is a filter fitted to the exhaust system that is very similar to a catalytic converter in looks. It is designed to remove diesel particulate matter or soot, and the objective is to produce cleaner exhaust gases.
However, as many people will agree, they often cause a lot more trouble than they actually do good.
As with any type of filter, a Particulate Filter needs to be cleaned regularly to function properly.
With Diesel Particulate Filter this is done by a process known as regeneration.
This involves a combination of functions in the Diesel Particulate Filter system to burning the soot to a very high temperature!
Regeneration should be an automatic process taking place in the normal use of your vehicle, you may have noticed this in the form of a blast of white smoke from the exhaust on occasions.
Diesel Particulate Filters have been in common use in passenger cars and light commercials from around 2003 in preparation for Euro 4 regs (2005), with Peugeot, Renault and BMW being early takers.
Euro 5 (2009) made it compulsory for diesel cars and light commercials to have a DPF fitted and Euro 6 2014 will tighten this up further.
Problems encountered with DPF
If regeneration doesn’t function properly it leads to a build up of soot affecting performance and fuel economy.
Left unattended this will result in a blocked DPF which can ultimately cause very expensive damage to other engine components. A blocked DPF is also potentially dangerous as it can cause overheating in the exhaust system and in turn presents a fire risk.
To prevent this damage most newer vehicles will go into “limp home” safety mode at this stage, meaning the vehicle will have minimum power!
For regeneration to take place it requires the vehicle to be driven regularly at some speed on open roads e.g. motorway driving, typically driving at around 2500 RPM for approx 30 minutes at least once a month, this will keep things working, however, many diesel vehicles are used primarily in urban areas or on short journeys, e.g. local deliveries, taxis, school runs etc, So the vehicle does not get the chance to heat up sufficiently and is unable to carry out a full regeneration process.
Even if the regeneration functions as it should, over time the ash residue will build up in the DPF and have the same affect ultimately resulting in a blocked Diesel Particulate Filter.
For this reason a Diesel Particulate Filter is classified as a serviceable Item by the vehicle manufacturers, like brake pads or air filters etc, and not covered under warranty. Diesel Particulate Filter systems therefore need to be maintained properly.
Dashboard common symbols
If your DPF warning light or Anti-Pollution warning is on dash, please do not ignore it and get professional advice!
Leaving it will ultimately cost you much more in additional repair bills and as mentioned above, it can be dangerous.
""dpf warning lights picture to be added here""
By the time your DPF warning lights are visible, your DPF will already be significantly blocked.
Forced regeneration by a Workshop or a “blast down the motorway” is not likely to cure the problem, these only work as preventative maintenance.

ECU remapping is basically the modern term for what used to be known as “chipping” in the 1980’s and 1990’s.
All vehicles manufactured after 1999 are fitted with an onboard computer called an “Electronic Control Unit” (E.C.U). The ECU monitors and controls the ignition timing, fuelling, air intake and boost pressure of an engine, and its parameters are pre-programmed from manufacture.
The program installed by the manufacturer is set to allow for build tolerances into their engines and to over comply with emission standards. It is also set to withstand operation in extreme environments, cope with sub-standard fuel quality found in some countries and allow for some owners’ sub-standard service intervals and driving.
ECU remapping a vehicle re-programs the parameters within the ECU and the outcome is a much more responsive, fuel efficient and smoother running vehicle. The ECU remapping procedure may sound very complicated to some, and does indeed utilise extremely advanced technology, but in principle is very simple.
Find your vehicle’s tuning stats
First we will need to plug our specialist equipment into your vehicle’s ECU port or socket. This is usually found underneath the dashboard or under the bonnet in the engine bay. Once plugged in, our equipment reads the ECU and downloads a computer file containing the relevant data needed to ascertain how the vehicle is currently performing. Then the file is analysed and a new file containing totally new parameters is uploaded to the ECU and hey presto!
All immobiliser and chassis information is safely retained upon this procedure.
We feel it is also important to mention that, all of our remaps are custom written on the day, are 100% unique to each individual vehicle that we carry out work on, and not ‘off the shelf’ pre-programmed ‘problem files’ that so many companies do use.
No. Although a vehicle fitted with a turbo system will benefit the most, a normally aspirated engine can also benefit from up to a 15% increase in power with careful adjustments within the vehicle’s ECU.
This can take anything from a day or two, depending on the make and model of the vehicle.
Economy TuningEconomy SoftwareIn our opinion, the decision as whether or not to have an Eco Recalibration is not whether you can afford it or not. With savings of up to 15% improved fuel economy, our Eco Recalibration will pay for itself in no time.
With fluctuating fuel costs, it has become even more important to obtain efficiency from engines in order to try and reduce the increasing costs of vehicle ownership. We specialise in economy tuning of modern diesel engines.
With Mastrertech Tuning Eco Recalibration you will benefit from increased power and torque providing you with a linear power delivery with the ability to achieve improved fuel economy and a reduced carbon footprint. Our Eco Recalibration software can provide you with the following benefits:
Up to 15% improved fuel economy • Improved Power • Improved Torque • Improved Driveability • Reduced C02 emissions •
